FAQs
Let’s Talk About Nursing Care and Rehabilitation

What is short-term rehabilitation?
Short-term rehabilitation (often called skilled rehab) is a focused, temporary stay, typically post-hospitalization, designed to help residents recover through physical, occupational, or speech therapy. Medicare Part A covers up to 100 days per benefit period for eligible individuals—and our team helps guide the process.
What is long-term nursing care?
While each place that provides this type of care may have its own definition of long-term care, the most common type of long-term care is senior personal care. This helps with what’s referred to as the activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, using the toilet, and transitioning from seated to standing, or getting in and out of bed. People often need long-term care when they have a debilitating or progressive medical condition that prevents them from living safely at home, yet they don’t need to be in a hospital that provides acute care. A person in the advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease or someone who has experienced a severe stroke are examples of people who might require long-term care.
Comprehensive medical care is available around the clock at Cottage Grove Place for those receiving long-term care. The duration of long-term care is indefinite; the goal is to help people live as independently and safely as possible.
Is the skilled nursing area at Cottage Grove Place like living in a hospital?
Not at all. While we offer advanced medical services, our environment feels more like home than hospital. From our well-appointed rooms to our warm and inviting corridor, we balance expert nursing with community, comfort, and familiar routines.
What makes Cottage Grove Place’s skilled nursing facilities different?
Local senior living peers in Cedar Rapids regularly send residents to Cottage Grove Place for rehabilitation services because our offering is more comprehensive, with deeper staffing, broader therapy, and consistently better outcomes. That local trust speaks volumes about our reputation.
How can I prepare for a short-term stay?
Pack comfortable clothing, personal items (like photos, books), your medications, and essentials like glasses or hearing aids. Visitors are encouraged, and we let residents personalize their space to stay connected and comfortable.
